Chrismont Elementary welcomes new students and strongly encourages our Primary students to continue their education in our innovative Montessori Elementary Program. Classroom teaching includes faculty and associate teachers, parents, and special guests. Our classroom represents a real life scenario in which all age groups are working together under the same roof. When your child expresses interest in a topic, the instructor presents an exercise to introduce the topic and then monitors his or her progress.
With gentle guidance from the instructors, students work at their own pace until they have completed the exercise, or in many instances, until they have mastered the topic. It is fairly common and very rewarding to see our 8- and 9-year-old students helping our 6- and 7-year-old students with their work. Hands-on, self-correcting learning tools are available and students are encouraged to drill as deep as they want with their respective interests. When your child is given the opportunity to learn in this manner, you’ll be amazed at how far he or she progresses.
Although the students dictate where their interests are, our Elementary curriculum provides opportunities to master core skills in the following areas: reading, creative writing, grammar, and spelling; mathematics, including geometry; general science, botany, and zoology; history; geography; social studies.
